Our school district continues to grow. Since the 2000-01 school year we have welcomed almost 10,000 new students to Aldine ISD. Enrollment in 2011-12 has reached nearly 63,900 students.
To accommodate growth, the Board of Education called for a schoolhouse bond referendum based on recommendations of an independent committee of parents and community members who worked with Aldine ISD staff to develop a list of projects totaling $365 million. In 2007, voters approved the sale of bonds to pay for these projects.
Projects included construction of 12 new schools and a school bus transportation facility; renovation of facilities including magnet schools, cafeterias, science labs, band and choir halls, and art classrooms; replacing air conditioner chillers, roofs, and cabinets; purchasing air conditioned buses; and more than $7.1 million in safety and security improvements.
