Choose Aldine ISD’s Award-Winning Early Childhood Program

Aldine ISD currently has 12 facilities completely devoted to meet the needs of prekindergarten and kindergarten students. Responding to early education research, District leaders continue their investment in early childhood education.

Each school has highly qualified early childhood certified teachers and instructional assistants who are devoted to developing the leaders of the future, fostering oral language development, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

PreK Program

The prekindergarten curriculum encourages a child’s curiosity as they grow and learn and play while building the foundational skills for reading, writing, math, and science. Experiences and activities in the curriculum program have been developed following early brain development research to include all developmental domains:

A wide variety of materials enhance learning and exploration. Teacher-directed and child-selected experiences promote positive learning experiences. The prekindergarten program builds upon the preschool foundation for learning, focusing on pre-academic skills for school readiness. Children in our PreK program graduate prepared to enter kindergarten with positive self-concept, curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Kindergarten Program

The kindergarten curriculum builds upon previous experience. It taps into individual interests, creates new interests, stimulates curiosity, encourages independent learning, strengthens academic skills, and prepares a child for the next academic level. The Aldine ISD kindergarten program enables our students to master the goals and objectives and provides common goals for how parents and teachers support a young child’s learning. At Aldine ISD, your child will learn foundational skills for first grade in a fun and engaging environment while receiving high-quality, academically challenging instruction. Our program provides enrichment and learning opportunities tailored to meet children’s needs. As preparation for first grade, our curriculum develops tools for learning:

  • Making choices independently
  • Self-discipline
  • Self-motivation
  • Self-confidence

Our goal is for the students to graduate from kindergarten prepared to enter first grade, ready to learn and experience academic and social success.

All Primary Schools offer Half-Day PreK3 Programs. Students Must Be Zoned to the Schools to Attend

All Aldine ISD Primary campuses offer preschool for three-year-olds (also known as PreK3).

To enroll in the PreK3 program, your child must qualify for PreK3 and live in the PreK3 campus attendance zone. Children who meet these qualifications will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If you live outside the PreK3 campus attendance zone, your child will be placed on a waitlist. If seats are available, students on the waitlist may be enrolled in order of the waitlist.

Again, whether zoned to the school or not, all students must meet age criteria and eligibility requirements.

Aldine ISD Primary Schools Offer Full-Day Head Start Program (PreK-4)

Head Start is a federally funded program that promotes the school readiness of eligible prekindergarten children by enhancing their cognitive (brain), social, and emotional development. Head Start children and families receive comprehensive services that include health, dental, nutrition, family wellness, education, disabilities, and family services as a part of the federal guidelines.

Head Start classes have a maximum of 20 students, with a state-certified teacher and a CDA-credentialed assistant in each classroom.

12 Early Childhood Schools (Primary Campus Grade Levels: EC/PreK/K)

Families can visit the School Locator web page to find their child’s school they are zoned to attend in their neighborhood.

Families and their children can choose from Aldine’s various unique academic programs — preschool through Grade 11 — known as Choice Schools from throughout the district. Two primary schools listed below — Kujawa and Reece — are considered Choice Schools. Students do not need to be zoned to Choice Schools. Choice Schools like the district’s magnet and International Baccalaureate (IB®) schools are open to Aldine ISD students who meet the criteria but must apply. Due to these programs’ popularity and limited seating. Each year, there are deadlines to apply to Choice Schools, and a selection is based on a lottery system. 

The two-way dual language immersion program started in fall 2019 in kindergarten classrooms and is expanding by a grade level each year. Students must start the program in kindergarten at one of five campuses — De Santiago EC/PreK/K School, García-Leza EC/PreK/K School, Hinojosa EC/PreK/K School, Magrill EC/PreK/K School, and Vines EC/PreK/K School. Students develop bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural skills and knowledge. Native English speakers and native Spanish speakers receive general academic instruction in two languages. *These schools have a limited number of seats for students zoned to the campus. Each year, there is a pre-enrollment deadline. Students not zoned to these schools can apply through the Choice School Lottery System if they meet application deadline requirements.

Age Requirement & Eligibility Requirements

  • PreK3: Students who will turn three years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for PreK3. They must also qualify to attend PreK programs that are offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria. 
  • PreK4: Students who will turn four years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for PreK4. They must also qualify to attend PreK programs that are offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria. 
  • Kindergarten: Students new to Aldine ISD who will turn five years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for kindergarten. Students attending PreK in Aldine going into kindergarten in the following school year do not need to pre-enroll.
