Each year, the State of the District highlights accomplishments, shares strategic goals and initiatives met or achieved, and new plans for the future. Traditionally, the State of the District is an in-person event meant to cultivate strong business and community partnerships. It is a moment to share stories of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
However, the 2020-2021 school year was not typical. It was an uncertain year that brought a variety of challenges for Aldine ISD. Still, AISD moved forward. That was thanks to our stakeholders: AISD staff, students, families, community members and partners that came together to turn those challenges into opportunities. Opportunities to equip all 67,000 students with devices, provide meals throughout the summer and school year, instruct students in-person in our schools and remotely for those learning at home. And the Aldine Cares staff visited homes to attend to students’ social and emotional needs to help them succeed. Indeed #AldineAnywhere was the perfect tagline. We are stronger because our more than 9,400 AISD employees dedicated themselves to students’ success. We are stronger because our students and their families remained flexible.
Below are stories, which capture the district’s focus, detail our progress in 2021, and define the direction in which Aldine will continue.
Replicating Successes Across the District
Since launching the district’s strategic plan in fall 2019, the focus has been to increase and expand the reach and scope of successful initiatives such as improved school performance. AISD’s system of great schools includes expanding early childhood education options, college and career readiness programs, access to more choices and opportunities for students, strengthening professional development to better support teachers in the classroom, and new systems and processes to increase the district’s capacity to maintain a system of great schools.
